SUGGESTED BODY PIERCING AFTERCARE
PRODUCTS TO USE FOR YOUR NEW PIERCING
Non-iodized sea salt or Saline Solution, DO NOT use table salt or Epson salt.Pick up some Cotton balls and Q-tips for those hard to clean piercings (example a nostril or a rook)DO NOT use alcohol, peroxide, Bactine, Ear Care Solutions or anything that stings or burns, this doesnt promote the tissue to heal properly and can make your piercing heal slower and dry it out. Do not use Polysporin or any other ointments or creams, they plug up the piercing so it cannot breathe and also attracts airborne bacteria to stick to it
HOW TO CLEAN YOUR NEW PIERCING
Always wash your hands before touching your new piercing. Mix 1/4 of a teaspoon of sea salt with 8-oz of warm water (or saline solution). Soak your piercing for 5-10 minutes twice a day until your piercing is healed (this will help gently remove any lymph (crusties) away from the surrounding area) For example, transfer some solution into a small cup or a shot glass and place the cup over your navel or nipple and lie back and let it soak. For other piercings it may be better to take cotton balls, gauze or q-tips have them saturated in the solution and place them over the piercing and let it soak. **DO NOT move the jewelry back and forth, it does more harm than good. Also a stronger mixture of sea salt is not better. A piercing may seem healed before the process is complete. This is because tissue heals from the outside in and although it feels fine the interior remains fragile. Be patient and keep cleaning it threw out the healing period and do not change your jewelry too soon, since that may prolong the healing process**ORAL AFTERCARE
Mix your solution of sea salt and put it in a water bottle and rise your mouth out after you eat or drink anything. Do this for the first 2-3weeks and no more than 10 times per day (make a fresh solution every day). Stay away from spicy foods, anything too hot in temperature, alcohol, smoking and sexual contact. Take an Advil (ibuprofen) to help keep down the swelling, even ice cold water and sucking on ice cubes can help. With Tongue Piercings, gently brush your tongue when you brush your teeth to keep off plaque, dead skin cells and to remove mucous. Remember to also be cleaning the exterior of your piercing as recommended in the aftercare above.
MICRODERMAL AFTERCARE
Follow the aftercare recommend above. Make sure for the first week you are wearing a Band-Aid over your Dermal. The Band-Aid will allow for gravity to keep your mirco dermal down and flat while it settles in your tissue. When you start to feel comfortable, add a bit of pressure to the Band-Aid to help keep your piercing flat. At any time threw out your healing time, if you snag it and are worried about it rising, just use the Band-Aid trick for a few days. **Keep away any lotions, body washes, make-up etc away from the surrounding area**
HELPFUL TIPS
With clean hands double check and tighten your beads on your jewelry. Avoid playing with new piercings, as physical irritation is the worst, leave them alone to heal and do not move or rotate them. Expect new piercings to be sore, red and crusty for a while and even leaking a white/yellow color discharge. Keep beauty products, lotions, cleansers, and also anything that may have bacteria on it away from the surrounding area.(ex: direct contact with cell phones with any ear piercings)
Swimming: Stay away from Pools, Hot Tubes, Lakes for the first month. Chlorine can dry/irritate and should be avoided if possible. Also you never know what type of bacteria could be in the water.
